The Wideman Piano Competition 2007 - 2008


Wideman Competition Rules


Eligibility
  • All Contestants must be at least 18 years of age and not older than 28 years of age by December 1, 2007.
  • Former first place winners of the Wideman Competition and students of acting judges of this year's Competition are ineligible.
  • The Competition limits the number of contestants per teacher to three.
  • All applications will be processed in the order received.   The Competition reserves the right to limit the number of contestants to 45 applicants.   All decisions of the Contestant Selection Jury and the Competition Jury will be final.

Application

  • In addition to the personal data furnished on the application form, each contestant must provide:
    • three copies of an up-to-date resume in essay form,
    • two letters of recommendation addressed to the Wideman Piano Competition,
    • proof of date of birth (e.g. copy of driver's license, birth certificate or passport),
    • a recent 8 x 10 black & white photograph for publicity purposes (passport or drivers license photographs are not acceptable).  It may be sent by email if it is of good quality in JPG or other Standard photographic format.
    • CD or DVD of the Concerto you propose to perform WITH accompaniment by a second piano or orchestra.
  • All applications must be received no later than October 15, 2007; applications are not returnable.   Acceptances will be announced and contestants notified by e-mail by October 26, 2007.

Repertoire

  • A contestant may select any piano concerto in the standard repertoire.
  • Contestants must be prepared to perform the entire concerto from memory.

Accompanist
  • Each contestant must make provisions for an accompanist.
  • If requested on the application form, an accompanist will be provided by the Competition for an additional $75, paid directly to the accompanist at the first round preliminaries.

Transportation

  • Each contestant must make provisions for transportation to Shreveport, Louisiana.   Air travel is available to the Shreveport Regional Airport.

Housing

  • Upon receipt of the application form online, each contestant will be sent information on available accommodations in hotels or private homes.

Fees

  • No application is complete and will not be accepted until a non-refundable application fee of $75.00 has been received.
